Medical
Your health benefits are an important part of your compensation. Plus, they give you and your family access to numerous health tools and resources. All eligible employees can choose between the four comprehensive medical plans through Cigna:
- Cigna HDHP Bronze Plan (HSA eligible)
- Cigna HDHP Silver Plan (HSA eligible)
- Cigna PPO Gold Plan
- Cigna PPO Platinum Plan
Each plan differs in deductible amounts, out-of-pocket maximums and coinsurance. Office visits, specialist visits and prescription drug costs vary by plan. For more details and to see how the plans differ, review your medical plan options in the Benefit Summaries linked above.
Preventive care—which includes your annual physical and wellness exams—is covered 100% when you see an in-network provider on all plans.
Note: Your Cigna ID card is digital and can be found at mycigna.com.
Find a Doctor
Our medical plans have contracted with a network of providers, including physicians, hospitals, and other types of providers. To receive the highest level of benefits and pay the least amount out of your pocket, you need to receive care from the providers who have elected to be a part of the network. It’s important to check that your providers are in-network to avoid costly out-of-network charges later.
To access the Cigna provider directory:
- Go to cigna.com
- Select Employer
- Change the location to the city/state or zip code desired
- Select Doctor by Type, Doctor by Name or Health Facilities and Group Practices
- Enter a search term and click Search
- Select Open Access Plus when asked to select a plan
- For employees living in Utah: Select PPO when asked to select a plan
Where to Go for Care
Knowing where to go when you need care can save you time, money, and hassle. Our Medical plans give you a variety of care options for any medical issues you may face. Remember to save the emergency room for true emergencies.

Note: When choosing a medical plan, think about how you prefer to pay for your care. Some plans have higher paycheck deductions and lower costs when you receive care, while others have lower deductions and higher costs when you receive care.
Cigna Member Tools
Cigna offers helpful tools that make it easier to find care, understand your coverage and manage your benefits. These resources are available to all Cigna medical plan participants and are designed to keep you informed and supported wherever you are.

Understanding the Medical Plan Lingo
We know not everyone understands the lingo, so here are some important terms to know as you decide which medical plan to choose, as well as how to use it during the year:
Copay
A copay is the fixed amount you pay for a covered health care service (e.g., a primary care physician’s office visit or an emergency room visit).
Deductible
Your annual deductible is the amount you pay for office visits, prescription drugs and other covered services before your plan begins sharing the cost.
Coinsurance
Coinsurance is the percentage you and your plan each pay when you’re sharing costs. Coinsurance kicks in after you meet your annual deductible.
Out-of-pocket maximum
The most you pay in a year for health care services is called the out-of-pocket maximum. After you reach the out-of-pocket maximum, the plan covers 100% of eligible services for the remainder of the plan year.
Balance Bill
If you receive care from an out-of-network provider, they may charge more than what your plan covers. The difference between what the provider bills and what your insurance pays is called a “balance bill” – and you are responsible for it. Staying in-network helps you avoid these charges.
Preventive Care
This includes routine check-ups, screenings, and vaccines that help catch problems early. Preventive care is covered at 100% by your plan when you use an in-network providers.
Prescription Drugs
Prescription drug coverage is embedded within each of our medical plan options.

How the Prescription Drug Tiers Differ
The amount you pay for a prescription drug is based on the type of drug you fill, whether it’s a generic, preferred brand, non-preferred brand or specialty. Here’s how the costs compare based on the tier of drug you fill:
Tier 1 – Generic: $
Always consider tier one medications if you and your doctor decide they are right for your treatment.
Tier 2 – Preferred: $$
Consider tier two medications if you and your doctor decide there are no tier one options appropriate to treat your condition.
Ask your doctor if there are tier one alternatives or over-the-counter brands that are equivalent to tier two medications. They may be used to treat the same condition but are less expensive.
Tier 3 – Non-Preferred: $$$
If you are currently taking a medication in tier three, ask your doctor whether there are tier one or two alternatives appropriate for your condition.
Compounded medications containing one or more ingredients that are prepared on-site by a pharmacist are classified at the tier three level, provided that the individual ingredients used in compounding are covered under the pharmacy benefit.
Tier 4 – Specialty: $$$$
These are typically high-cost drugs used to treat complex or chronic conditions. If you are prescribed a specialty medication, ask your doctor whether there are tier one, two or three alternatives that may be clinically appropriate and more cost-effective.
Note: Keep in mind that some preventive medications are covered at 100% when you use an in-network pharmacy. They are NOT covered when received out-of-network.
